This is a documentary abut a very strange record producer--if you thought Phil Spector was odd, check out this guy. He produced Telstar by the Tornados plus lots of other classic British hits--his work is not as well known here in the US, but many collectors still seek out his work

I just sat here in a marathon watch & listen see through all parts of The Joe Meek Story. I feel a bit tad wonderful to not have known of this man's sojourn to get things right for Britania's recording legacy. As the tape ran out at the conclusion, I was overdubbed by an unearthed perpetual nuance. He started it, didn't he, George?
He was one strange puppy wasn't he??
Joe is a legend think many misunderstand him.He was in love with someone who did not love him in a time when it was illegal to be gay. His mother dressed him as a little girl when he was a child....(" i'm a boy i'm a boy but my mom won't admit it") He was very paranoid - some say he could have had bi-polar or other mental health problems which of course was made worse by all the barbitutes he was taking so he was undiagnosed and untreated. Under pressure finacially as royalties from 'TELSTAR' were frozen he snapped and had a nervous breakdown. I don't really think that is strange more sad. without Joe many records would never have happened not just the ones he produced...
